Collecting: Vintage Holiday Knits

It is getting colder and snowier…. wear a festive holiday sweater!

The holidays are officially here and it is a great time to pull out your favorite festive knits! Liz’s mom was an avid knitter, and she grew up with handmade mittens, sweaters and beautiful handmade woolen goods. Collecting is often a family tradition, and for the Schumacher family, fine woolen items are loved.

One of our favorite things to collect is textiles. Whether it is a classic quilt, woven blanket, southwest poncho or piece of needlepoint, all of these things represent something handmade with tradition, quality and love. We are featuring a taste of Liz’s vintage holiday knit sweaters in this post. Liz collected many of these sweaters from family members, gifts, or Ebay. You can collect your own too! The snowflake and reindeer patterns are classic Ralph Lauren hand knit sweaters from the 1980s- if you like them (Liz is wearing one in this picture) you can find them on Ebay or Poshmark. Want something that is truly one of a kind? Search for hand knit sweaters online.

There are many awesome woolen mills in Ireland that also sell their gorgeous products online. A classic cream fisherman’s sweater is always cool and fashionable, and wears forever! How one of those awesome fuzzy Icelandic sweaters? Both Melissa and Liz’s moms gave them these back in the 80s, and yes, we both still have them! Yes they are super warm, but they are beautiful holiday knits worth wearing next time you go for a hike outside- just throw on a down vest! FYI, sweaters make a great gift for both women and men. And a great quality holiday knit lasts forever.

This holiday and winter season wear something inspired and warm. We all love fleece and flannel, but why not make life a little more fun and wear something that has some history, pattern, color and is one of a kind?
