Classic Holiday Egg Nog

Classic holiday egg nog to make and enjoy at home on Christmas Morning.

Egg Nog is a classic Christmas drink. In my family my mother, Betty, makes this recipe every year and we never open a gift before the egg nog has been served. Even the dog loves licking the cups and then naps by the tree afterwards.

Ingredients & Preparation:

Combine all ingredients in a large punch bowl (we like vintage ones) right before serving. Whip 2 cups of heavy cream with vanilla extract until you have soft peaks or ripples. (It should not be stiff). Fold the whipped cream into the egg nog right before serving so you can see ribbons of whipped cream.

  • 1 Quart Fresh Egg Nog (use something local from Whole Foods in glass bottle or something similar, not ultra pasturized)
  • 1-2 Cups of fresh whipped cream (soft peaks not stiff)
  • 1 Cup Bourbon
  • 1 Cup Cognac
  • 1 Cup Dark Rum
  • Fresh Grated Nutmeg
  • 2 Cups Heavy Cream
  • 1 Tsp Vanilla Extract

To serve: ladle the egg nog into punch cups or mugs and serve with fresh grated nutmeg and/or a cinnamon stick. I love a cup of this egg nog on Christmas morning with a slice of Christmas Panettone or Stollen. (Try Liz’s recipe).

Merry Christmas Everyone!

  1. I make this every year. This year there was just two of us instead of eight. But I gave jars away. I haven’t heard from those people. Mostly likely they are napping. Good. We all need some calm.
  2. I have been fortunate to be the across the street neighbor of Betty Spar in the past and have spent a Christmas morning with Melissa, her brothers and Betty and Ed sipping this lovely drink. Every Christmas since my husband and I say, remember that Christmas that we had Betty’s egg nog? It was one of our best.
    1. Thanks Tiffany! This is Liz! I haven’t tried her infamous nog yet but may have to make some this winter. Egg nog is for anytime of year in my book… if it is delicious, why not?
    2. Hi Tiff – The Wolfe Pack is missed! Hope all is well. Thanks for checking out the blog!
