Liz and I are huge fans of Birkenstocks. We have both worn them for years. I remember in the 90’s how I resisted wearing them because they were not as trendy as I would have liked. I truly thought they were ugly. But I like many many people I knew (including my mother Betty) said just try them first. Once I bought and actually wore them I was a total convert. I should have trusted my mother….
My first pair was the Giza in white patent. Then my next was a metallic silver Arizona and after a few others in between I bought the black shearling pair of Arizonas during the pandemic. I wore them pretty much every day in the house like slippers and even outside with socks. (I know horror…) I am even wearing that pair this summer (mostly evenings). Every pair has been extremely durable and wore well.
Best Birks to Buy
I think the best bang for the buck and most useful pair is the EVA version of the Arizona sandal. I bought the olive pair shown above last summer (they don’t have that color this year but the gray and pink are fun). I wear these to the beach because I hated how the sand stuck to the suede footbed of my silver pair. Flash forward to this summer and they are still in near perfect shape. These are the shoes I reach for every time we head out to the shore.
3 Reasons to Buy Them
In my mind there are 3 reasons to run out and grab these: 1) you can hose them off after the beach and they look like new. 2) they stay cool in the sun, never getting too hot that they burn your feet and 3) they last forever. So for the price $44.95 you can buy a few colors to match each swimsuit.
You can find these pretty much everywhere. Birkenstock has the best selection but a simple google search will net you many colors, online retailers and local stores that carry the ones you want.
